John Palmer is an expert in building highly effective debt structures that solve companies’ needs during 11 years in credit markets. He has financed a wide array of firms across the UK and internationally leading both the structuring and negotiations to arrange senior debt, trade finance, asset finance, and debtor financing.

John joined MDW Capital from Clydesdale Bank’s Structured Finance team, where he was a Director.  During his times at the bank, he led the origination and execution of cashflow lending transactions, focusing on M&A and leveraged buy outs, and leading over 30 completed transactions in three years.  John has extensive knowledge of borrowers across multiple sectors, with a specialism in technology, business services, and media.

In addition to his strong track record as a lender and partner to businesses, John has written credit policies and developed new lending products that have been successfully launched into the market.  He has also pioneered senior lending structures for Employee Ownership Trusts, being one of the first lenders to do so, and has led a number of seminars and workshops on lending to employee-owned businesses.

John originally trained as an economist before joining Royal Bank of Scotland in 2011.  He then joined the Structured Finance team of Williams & Glynn, first in London and in the Midlands where he was part of the new team that was established to build the regional franchise.

John is married with one child (and another on the way!) and when not at work enjoys watching English and North American ice hockey. He is also a keen runner and is a two-time London Marathon finisher.
